About event
D 1987, D: Wim Wenders, with Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Otto Sander, 128 min, OmeU
Wim Wenders' incomparable masterpiece from 1987 appears in a lavishly restored 4K version, which celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale 2018.
It's not just the impressive images of divided Berlin that remain unforgettable Cameraman Henri Alekan and the extraordinary script written by Peter Handke, but also the music by Nick Cave, who can be seen performing live in the film. The angel Damiel walks through divided Berlin accompanied by his heavenly colleague Cassiel.
They look at a world in black and white. In search of feelings such as longing and passion, Damiel dreams of the true, earthly existence that is only reserved for humans. When he falls in love with the trapeze artist Marion, he dares to take the step into mortality and experiences the world in new colors...
The Sky Over Berlin is considered a classic of German auteur cinema and has won several international awards, including the Palme d'Or for Best Director in Cannes in 1987 and the German, Bavarian and European Film Awards in 1988. In 1993, Wenders, together with the main actors Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin and Otto Sander, created a sequel to the film entitled Far Away, So Close.
