Debata_A4: O Novembri po Novembri

Thirty-six years after the Gentle Revolution, public memory oscillates between ritualization and deliberate forgetting - between the pathetic repetition of symbols and their conscious expulsion from the public space.

For part of society, November 17 is a liturgy of democracy, while for others it is an uncomfortable reminder of an ethos that does not fit into the current narrative of power. And for the generation that was born after the revolution, it is often only a distant, hard-to-grasp symbol.

The November after November debate therefore opens up the question of what of the original ethos of freedom and civic courage we can still survive today - at a time when social transformations are accelerated by technology, economic uncertainty and new forms of power.

With sociologist Dominik Želinský and political scientist Jozef Lenča, we will look at how the meaning of freedom, identity and solidarity changes after November and whether democracy in the digital age needs a new language - and new rituals.
