Dawuna + yanntray & kvítek

It is an eternal question how many musical treasures are hidden in the deepest depths of the Internet. Dawuna is one of the countless that have spontaneously surfaced. When New York musician Ian Mugerwa released Glass Lit Dream in 2020, it was a shot in the dark. However, by lucky control of fate, or inevitably based on its qualities, as one wants, the recording quickly reached the right people and a year later it was already receiving enthusiastic references on Boomkat and in The Guardian. On the debut as well as on the subsequent shorter recordings EP1 and Southside Bottoms, Dawuna is characterized by a completely unique approach to R&B, where on the one hand he does not shy away from the drama and emotions associated with the genre, on the other he uses a sober production that works with austere rhythms and an almost ambient layering. It is an intimate experiment, where hints of ecstasy flash through the deep melancholy. The tone can be erotic and religious, ghostly and mundane. Contemplative, slow compositions inspired by soul and gospel alternate with underground hits, and everything is dominated by an expressive voice of a supremely alternating position. Art'n'b.
