-----

David Těšínský has long been dedicated to creative documentary photography with a strong social, societal and human impact. During the last years, he worked in 91 countries around the world, where he mainly documented raw and often overlooked topics - subcultures, war, poverty, religion, crime, addictions, gender identity and life on the fringes of society.

He photographs people's stories, specific lifestyles, controversial and extraordinary destinies. He perceives photography as a tool for both confrontation and understanding - a means by which stereotypes can be broken, new points of view can be opened and testimonies of worlds that most people do not know or do not want to be seen. He is not only concerned with the image itself, but also with the context, work ethics, the responsibility of the author and the long-term relationship with the photographed people.

Photography can be much more than just photography.

He deals with various topics – revolutionary youth in Iran, female fighters in the war zone in Ukraine, portraits of serial killers in Ukraine, gang problems and volunteer rescuers in Guatemala, exorcism in Ethiopia, the daily life of rappers in Detroit (Bronx, Brooklyn), ghetto life in Jamaica, Ghana and Nigeria, alcoholism in Greenland, victims of intentional fires in the Amazon forest in Brazil, hard working children in Ghana, street life of living roots reggae legends in Jamaica, drug addicts in Prague and the same problem in Victoria, Canada, illegal LGBTQ communities in Belarus or Pakistan, the tragicomic life of businessmen in Japan, life in slums in India and Nepal, the first ever transvestite in Cuba and other subcultures and stories.

His photos appear in media such as The Guardian, VICE, Le Monde, Vanity Fair, The Huffington Post, Stern, Spiegel, La Repubblica, The Sun and The Times.

He has had solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Seoul, Dakar, Washington D.C., Tel Aviva, London, Budapest, Berlin, Munich, Warsaw, Brussels and other cities. He has participated in exhibitions and workshops in the USA, Canada, Israel and at approximately 80 other events. He participated ten times in the Czech Press Photo competition and received awards in the Sony World Photography Awards, PDN Storytellers, Award of Excellence from Pictures of the Year International and was also nominated for World Press Photo.
