About event
Join OSPIRG, Health Care for All Oregon, and Oregon Coalition for Affordable Prescriptions for a public forum focused on reining in the cost of prescription drugs in Oregon. This event will feature key players in the fight to cut prescription costs across the nation.
In 2021, the state legislature created Oregon’s Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB). The board was given an ambitious charter: “to protect residents … from the high costs of prescription drugs.” To discover how the Board can fulfill its charter moving forward, we’ve invited experts from two states that are leading the way: Colorado and Maryland.
Both Colorado and Maryland have given their PDAB the authority to set the maximum price, otherwise known as an upper payment limit (UPL), that buyers can pay for specific high-cost drugs. Colorado recently set the first-in-the-nation upper payment limit on the arthritis prescription Enbrel and Maryland is likely to follow on two other drugs soon. It’s estimated that Colorado’s UPL will save consumers over $32 million.
Join advocates from these two states to learn how Oregon can be next.
Charlie Fisher, OSPIRG’s State Director, will be joined by Vincent DeMarco, the president of Maryland Health Care for All, and Priya Telang, from Colorado Consumer Health Initiative.
DeMarco is one of the foremost voices in public health in his state, and one of the original advocates for prescription drug affordability boards. Telang helped lead the successful campaign in Colorado for the first-in-the-nation upper payment limit on a prescription drug.
