The winds of globalization in this 21st century, and in fact the entire liquid society that has been dissolving for half a century, have also brought with them a crisis of values. Because although moral values are intrinsic to the human soul, they were largely part of tradition, customs, and education in each place, with religious primacy also in its most external aspect. New times force human beings with different beliefs, values and ways of acting to live together, and sometimes under pressure. Honesty would be, as Cicero said, the key to acting well in all circumstances, the key to our morality, as its quintessence is truth. But in turbulent times, like on a boat in a storm, it's difficult to pinpoint where the polar star is, because you simply can't see it. The golden key “treat others as you want to be treated” is not even valid for everything, as such different perspectives on life make it difficult to apply. In times like these, we must, more than looking at the sublime ideal of the human being, with the court of virtues that radiate, go back to the very foundation of the human condition, the substrate that makes us human beings. And this is undoubtedly dignity. We all know intuitively what is worthy of being human and what is not. What ennobles and dignifies him, and what debases and animalizes him, dehumanizing him. Dignified treatment, dignified respect, dignified purposes, a dignified relationship between one another must also be the fairest, and if the scales are not perfectly adjusted, in our ignorance, they must come closer than their opposites.< br/>Yes, we can certainly assume that dignity is, and has always been, a compass of the human soul to act as righteously as possible. This is why it has always been said that dignity is the true mantle of the philosopher, and what shelters and protects all human beings.
