About event
We invite you to a new exhibition within the curatorial program for beginning curators and curators. In Čepan Gallery you will be able to visit the exhibition of a pair of Slovak artists Klára Kusá and Jana Hojstričová, who was created with curator Mario Drgoň. Together they create a map of an existential archive in which the body is not only an object of biology, but a carrier of memory. This frame is entered by the term Conatus, the inner efforts of each being to maintain its existence and to direct to life. Klára Kusá examines anemia in his series and its impact on the physical and mental experience of the individual. In the installation, bandages and gypsum fragments appear, thus the blood becomes the primary element of its exhibition entry, the carrier of pain and transformation. The photographic work of Jana Hojstričová shows the surface of the body such as a map of the past, scars, signs, pigment clusters or hair. The skin becomes a medium that preserves memory in the form of a body archive. The exhibition examines the interconnection of the authors, while the intersection occurs as a result of Klarin's study at Jana Hojstričová. Trnava

Jana Hojstričová
She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where she works as a photographer and pedagogue at the Department of Photography and New Media. She entered the art scene in the 1990s. In the beginning, she devoted herself to subjective depiction of human intimacy, mostly women. Later, her work anchored in sociological understanding, interested in the position of women in family and society. The main theme still remains the body that puts it in the context with the increasing influence of consumer society. In 2010, she started cooperation with Pal Mach, which gives a new dimension and context to her photos, as well as a new layer of glass image - an object. He is currently engaged in a research-artistic project to connect the historical photograph of the 19th century with the current perspective and the use of scientific principles in art and photography. Influenced by post-war art, philosophy, research methods and medical discourse, he works with the objects and materials found from which the site-specific installation creates. In his work he combines photograph, drawing, video, sound, body movement and archive tracks. Through performing gestures, it interferes with both public and institutional premises, which it activates as platforms for criticism and dialogue. She is currently studying in The New Center for Research & Practice and at the Ava in Prague. She completed artistic residences in Slovakia, Spain and Turkey, as well as an internship for Kabk in the Netherlands.
Gallery operation support the courtyard and Trnava self-governing region.
