About event

A pop-up exhibition where photo montage meets painted echoes—exploring climate, movement, and imagination through art.

Climate in Motion-Moving Pieces: Photo Montages with Painted Echoes

Join us for a three-day exhibition by photographer and researcher Sanyam Bajaj and artist and perfomer Lavia Lin that merges photography, abstract painting, and live art experiences into an immersive dialogue on climate change—its emotions, tensions, and possible futures.

Climate in Motion invites visitors to feel climate change through art rather than only analyze it. Blending documentation, abstraction, and participation, the exhibition creates space for emotional resonance and collective reflection. Through this exhibition, climate change is transformed from a distant data point into an immediate, sensory experience—an invitation to reflect, reimagine, and act.

🔹 About the Initiative:

Drishya Kala Klima is an evolving series where landscapes become layered narratives of past, present, and future, blending art, policy, and research into one frame. This initiative transforms climate change from a distant data point into an immediate sensory experience connected to emotions, an invitation to reflect, reimagine, and act.

"Drishya" (दृश्य) for vision, "Kala" (कला) for art in Hindi (India), and "Klima" for climate from German

🌿What to Expect:

  • Visual Dialogue – Climate-focused photographic montages from Drishya Kala Klima (by Sanyam Bajaj) are presented alongside abstract paintings by Lavia Lin, who interprets climate themes through movement, rhythm, and color.
  • Live Expression – A live painting session with sound, offering an embodied reflection where climate is expressed beyond words.
  • Participatory Workshop: “Paint Your Thoughts” – Visitors co-create on a shared cloth by painting, drawing, or writing their climate hopes and fears. This collaborative piece becomes part of the exhibition and contributes to ongoing qualitative research.
  • Dialogue & Community – Reflection cards, books, and informal conversations invite the audience to leave impressions, creating a living record of climate narratives.
  • Policy & Art Conversation – One evening will host a dialogue bridging art and policy, exploring how climate art can influence public discourse in Berlin.
  • Vernissage – An opening with climate-friendly food and drinks, grounding the event in ecological responsibility.

About the artists:

Sanyam Bajaj is a multidisciplinary professional, a photographer, researcher, and policy communication consultant, with over a decade of experience across South Asia, Germany, and Africa, he has worked for several multilateral organizations, think tanks, and international organisations like Goethe-Institut, the Embassy of Switzerland, Institute of Arts & Innovation, and the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) at GIZ. His journey has taken him from the vibrant streets of New Delhi to the cultural hubs of Madrid and Paris, before settling in Berlin in 2021. Holding a master’s degree in professional photography from IED Madrid (2017-18) and public policy from the Hertie School (2021-24), Sanyam seamlessly integrates art, research, and advocacy, using his lens as a tool for societal change.

Sanyam’s interdisciplinary approach is evident in his exploration of climate change awareness. By uniting diverse subjects and elements within a single frame, his work goes beyond aesthetics to tell powerful stories that transform public spaces through evidence-based policies. His art, education, and work experiences resonate with the urgency of the environmental crisis, inspiring hope and highlighting actionable pathways toward a sustainable future.

Lavia Lin is an abstract painter, live painting performer, and cultural facilitator from Shanghai, China. She takes strong conceptual references from music and sound to create expressive abstract soundscapes. Her works are often inspired by imagined organic shapes, rhythmic lines, and melodic flows of color—especially the shifting sounds of jazz. Each painting emerges from inner dialogue, reflection, and contemplative study, engaging the senses, emotions, and imagination.

Since 2017, Lavia has toured with the Italian band Satoyama, performing live across Europe and promoting their unique sound. In 2022, she joined Satoyama’s “Sinking Island” Europe tour, a project inspired by islands at risk of disappearing due to rising sea levels. Through live painting and music, the tour used art as a messenger to raise awareness of climate change. She has continued to collaborate with musicians across diverse genres—from jazz and ambient to classical—bridging cultures and disciplines through spontaneous creation.

Her works have been exhibited internationally, and in 2023, she was an artist-in-residence at Szent András Kastély in Hungary. Live painting remains a central element of her practice, reflecting her commitment to exploring the dynamic dialogue between visual art, music, and the lived moment
