📖 ABOUT THE BOOK LAUNCH
The reportage book deals in detail and from different angles with the tragic events of October 12, 2022 in front of the popular Bratislava queer enterprise Tepláreň. It reconstructs the events of the fateful evening, investigates the killer's motives, but also looks back at the ruined young lives of Juraj and Matúš and the story of the wounded Radka. Among the efforts to objectively process the blackest day in modern Slovak queer history, the author's deeply personal and intimate experience of these tragic events seeps into the text.

Marek also looks at the life of LGBTI+ people in the Slovak context in a broader context. He touches on the topic through the story of the first Slovak queer activist Imrich Matyáš from the interwar period, through the stories of people who in totalitarian times had to undergo aversion therapy in an attempt to cure them of homosexuality, but also those who discovered their identity in the nineties and in some moments literally fought for bare life. We will learn about the history of the Slovak Prids, about the family referendum, which marked a turning point in the perception of LGBTI+ people in Slovakia, and it will be our turn to learn about the stories of contemporary activists who still hold the rainbow flag above their heads.

The book Trigger was created on the basis of interviews with more than fifty people - relatives of the victims, witnesses from the scene of the crime, queer people affected by violence in months before and after the murder, with monuments and memorials to events from the near or distant past. Marek Hudec talks about how difficult it is sometimes to fight for the right to love in a hateful atmosphere, and how beautiful it can be when love finally wins.

The book with the subtitle Tales of Love and Hate was published by the Absynt publishing house in to the Cursed Reporters edition in 2024.
