CineItaliano – (not only) comedies

Making cinema 2026

On the occasion of the 9th edition of Fare Cinema which will take place in the week from 22nd to 28th June 2026, the event promoted by MAECI in collaboration with MiC, ANICA, ICE, Istituto Luce – Cinecittà, Italian Film Commissions and Accademia del Cinema Italiano – David di Donatello Awards, the Italian Institute of Culture in Prague is organizing two days of open-air cinema!

On 24 June, as part of our CineItaliano, the fourth appointment of the “(not just) comedies” review, dedicated to comedies, returns Italian films: from the great classics to the most recent titles, from the more light-hearted stories to those with a bittersweet flavour.

This time we welcome the summer with a film that has conquered audiences all over the world: Mediterranean by Gabriele Salvatores, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1992.

Set in the midst of the Second World War, the film tells the story of eight Italian soldiers who, unfortunately or fortunately, are forgotten on the Greek island of Megisti, in the heart of the Mediterranean. What at first sight seems like a desert island will end up profoundly changing their lives and conquering their hearts.

With an extraordinary cast: Diego Abatantuono, Claudio Bigagli, Giuseppe Cederna, Claudio Bisio, Gigio Alberti, Ugo Conti, Memo Dini and Vasco Mirandola accompanied by the unforgettable music of Giancarlo Bigazzi and Marco Falagiani, this film, at the same time light, melancholy, funny and profoundly human, continues to enchant spectators over thirty years after its release.

Come and dream of the Mediterranean with us!
