About event
The absence of the sea on its territory is among the biggest "disadvantages" of the Czech nation. That's probably why Czechs like to spend their holidays at the seaside. Most often, their destination is the Adriatic, where, however, few realize that this very sea is an interesting part of Czech military history, because until November 1918, thousands of Czechs served here in the ranks of the Austro-Hungarian navy. Due to the high level of education of the Czech nation at the time, we find our ancestors in naval uniforms among machinists, gunners, radio telegraph operators, musicians, naval aviators and doctors. Many Czechs served not only on surface ships, but formed a significant part of submarine crews. After the fall of the monarchy and the return to their homeland, many men in naval uniforms fought as infantry or armored train crews in Slovakia against the Hungarian Bolsheviks.
