🗿 Art is not only in galleries, you can also find it in our streets. The fifth Bratislava Cultural Forum will be dedicated to works of art in public space
Bratislava Cultural Forum (BaKF) is a public platform initiated by the capital, which strives for a continuous dialogue between the city of Bratislava and established and non-established cultural organizations operating in its territory. At the same time, it is a space for networking with other municipalities and partners from the public and state administration, who are part of the creation and implementation of cultural policies or research in selected topics. of the future.
Hundreds of works of art, monuments, commemorative plaques and fountains can be found in the public space of the capital city, which across centuries and regimes have created an unexpected exterior gallery of Bratislava. However, in the radical changes in the political organization of the country, a vacuum of interest arose, which required not only the irreversible loss of many high-quality works, but also the often unconceptual creation of new ones - not only in Bratislava, but also in other cities in Slovakia and beyond.
From 2022, the capital city is gradually trying to create a system solution for property registration, mapping, popularization and setting up professional frameworks for the protection of existing and creating new works of art. At the same time, it tries to answer a wide range of questions that are closely related to public art. Who owns the works of art in the city's public space? How to ensure their quality care and protection? What are all the legislative frameworks involved in the restoration or creation of new works? What is the significance of civil pressure, popularization and how to deal with the works left on the face of the city by totalitarian regimes?
To gain a common understanding of these topics, we invite you to the TU-BA premises on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. for the fifth BaKF, organized by our Department of Culture in cooperation with the Bratislava Culture and Information Center.
