About event
Günther Groissböck, bass
Florian Krumpöck, Piano
"With a heart full of infinite love for those who spurned it, I wandered... into a distant region. I sang songs for long, long years. If I wanted to sing love, it became pain for me. And if I just wanted to sing pain again, it became love for me." (Franz Schubert)
When Franz Schubert invited his circle of friends to perform the 24 “scary songs” from his “Winterreise,” he was aware that he had created a work that takes the listener to the deepest point of existential feelings. Numerous attempts at interpretation have been made in the almost 200 years since this cycle was created: from the political parable as a criticism of the Metternich system to the superficial interpretation of the romantic love story.
Milestones within the art song genre are undisputedly Franz Schubert's three song cycles, which have a never-ending fascination for both performers and audiences. Starting with “Winterreise”, the celebrated bass Günther Groissböck will immerse himself in the emotional cosmos of these three masterpieces with Florian Krumpöck on Bösendorfer over the next three years and embark on a fascinating journey to the innermost core of the human soul.
