Near and far. Exhibition of photographs by Claude and Marie-José Carret
📍 Slovak National Museum - residential building, Vajanského nabr. 2, Bratislava
📅 Vernissage: November 5, 2025
📆 Exhibition duration: November 6, 2025 – February 2, 2026
As part of the Month of Photography 2025, we invite you to the exceptional exhibition of French authors Claude and Marie-José Carret – Near and Far. Visits to Helena Oľga Hrušková.
Their black-and-white photographs capture the life of Roma communities in Slovakia, especially in Klenovec and its surroundings, where the authors regularly returned for more than forty years. In their lens, the poetry of everyday life, respect for people and the quiet trust that arises only between friends are intertwined.
The Carrets, photographers from the French city of Rennes, came to Czechoslovakia in 1984 – but they had no idea that they would find a second home here. Through their friend and guide Helena Oľga Hrušková, they entered a world that marked them forever.
"The photographs of Claude and Marie-José Carret are not just a document. They are a statement about closeness, trust and humanity,"
says the general director of SNM PhDr. Andrea Predajňová.
The exhibition was created as part of international cooperation and brings an exceptional view of Slovakia through the eyes of French artists. It is part of the Month of Photography 2025 and will be accompanied by curated tours, discussions and an accompanying program.
📸 The lens that connects the worlds. Come and see the exhibition that talks about people, friendship and time - quietly, but with great power.
We look forward to seeing you in the headquarters of the Slovak National Museum!
