As part of the cycle Music at FUTU
3.12.2025, 18.00
Faculty of Arts TU in Košice
Atelier F12, 1st floor
The format Music at FUTU, as in its manifesto, should provide a concert space primarily for students, teachers and local experimental creators, who create music mostly in addition to their work as an artist, will once again welcome the teacher of the Košice Faculty of Arts – this time Boris Sirka and his musical partner Jozef Tušan in their group BIOS (the last time it was a concert by his colleague Boris Vaitović together with Juraj Vajó and Attila Tverďák as a trio of the band Urban Hudák).
BIOS is a duo of experimental musicians from Košice, but especially well-known artists Boris Sirka and Jozef Tušan. They mainly focus on live, improvised site-specific performances, which often accompany their original video projections (but even without visuals, their music is strongly visual). So far, they have created two albums for remote listening: Fluorescent Minerals in 2016 and Power of Ten in 2021. In the first, they deliberately hide their treasures carefully in a cave, where they gradually transform them into luminous stones by touching them on their instruments, creating a magical reflective atmosphere and an interplay of pleasantly disturbing, intense, urgent tones, interwoven with a specific language with which the stones communicate in addition to light, as well as noise, echoes, calls and ripples of this small chamber universe. In the second album, BIOS is more forceful, harsher, faster, more inviting to movements. From the cave of fluorescent minerals, we get on a train that doesn't really want to stop anymore, it cuts through the landscape in its joyous monotony, with which it can transport and soothe passengers on ever new routes, this time in an alarmingly open space. Other meanings of what we thought were familiar are thus within reach, without fear of getting lost or going too fast thanks to their safe way of controlling dangerous driving. Each of these albums is unique, you just have to choose according to whether you want to be quiet for a while and admire the world in one place around you or run and perceive the world in a similar way, but in different places at the same time. And let's be surprised how they quieten us down and get us going next Wednesday!
Even though we meet Music at FUTU only this time in the winter semester this year, I believe that it will attract and touch our students and teachers, as well as other viewers from the outside. You are all warmly welcome at 6 p.m. in studio F12 on the far right on the 1st floor!
BIOS and the organizing team of Music at FUTU are looking forward to seeing you
