About event

Antonín Dvořák is a Czech composer whose work has been heard regularly at the State Opera since its inception. Rusalka, today an opera classic that must not be missing in the repertoire of any opera house, was written based on the fairy tale libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil. The work is a story about the relationship between man and the world of natural elements, about the tragic consequences of the meeting of these two worlds, about punishment and forgiveness. Dvořák created two worlds in music as well. The music of the human environment is robust, sonically specific, and the folk characters of the forester and the cook have a harsh humor. Dvořák gave the world of fairy-tale creatures an almost impressionistic subtlety and color harmony.
