I recorded this album in August 2022.
Previously I have never mixed my music and the music of the classics in one album. And now I’ve made up my mind. One way or another, I have always been both a “performer” and a “composer”. My “interpretations” of the classics have always sounded, let’s say, strange (compared to how they are “supposed” to play), and in my own things there is always an echo of performing experience.
But now every sound has to make its way through the impossibility of speaking music and speaking in general. Everything that seemed important and meaningful became meaningless. And it’s impossible to continue making art as if “everything is normal.”
The album’s route goes through “textbook” classics and things of my own throughout my life - from those times when my mother sat little me on her lap facing keyboard and putting my hands on top of hers, she played Bach for me (in fact, that’s how I “entered music”) - and until now. From “Music for December” (1993) to “Chaconne in A minor” (2021). From the F minor Musical Moment of Schubert to the very last romance by Tchaikovsky (“Again, as before, alone”) in my transcription for solo piano.
Eleven tracks of the album are like scattered pages thrown onto the shore of the ocean of Samsara and ending up with someone... then in your hands. An attempt to understand what the connection is between them, how and why all this happened, and what will happen now. If anyone on this planet survives at all, it is not a fact that there will be a desire and opportunity to listen to music. But just in case, let this album exist.
