Anežka Mikulcová: Portrét stínu. Fenomén portrétních siluet v dlouhém 19. století

We cordially invite you to another lecture from the Colegium historia artium, which will be presented by Anežka Mikulcová (NPÚ) on the theme of the portrait of the shadow. The phenomenon of portrait silhouettes in the 19th century. 19th century and which in various variations has been promoted in fine art to this day. In contrast to numerous foreign studies, this phenomenon has not yet been reflected in Czech art history, although it offers a number of surprising links to contemporary art, culture and science. One of the reasons for this lukewarm attitude towards portrait silhouettes is probably their ambiguous character consisting in a number of paradoxes, the main one is: How can a visual recording of human form from something as antimimetic as the stained shadow? The lecture will outline this and other "silhouette paradoxes", the reasons for the silhouette "boom" in the second half of the 18th century and the modern and propriation of the silhouette form.
