ALTENBERG
The spa mountain town on the German side of the Ore Mountains is known for its many sports, tourist and recreational opportunities. In every season, free time offers the opportunity to experience pure nature, get to know mining traditions, be active in sports or regenerate during a spa stay. Here we can find a ski lift, a summer toboggan run and also the Rehaklinik thermal spa, where there are several pools with thermal water at a temperature of 24 to 39 degrees Celsius. There are no water slides. But on the other hand, the thermal water from underground is wonderfully warm, which you will especially appreciate in winter.
GEISINGBERG (824 m above sea level)
It is located above the mining towns of Geising and Altenberg, from where well-marked and maintained hiking trails lead to the top. The mountain was formed during volcanic activity associated with the uplift of the Ore Mountains 30 million years ago. It is not an extinct volcano, but a slowly cooled basalt magma under the earth's surface, which was gradually dissected above the surrounding terrain.
On the forested peak there is a lookout tower built in 1891, which lasted over 100 years without major repairs. The octagonal brick tower called "Louisenturm" is 18 meters high and a spiral staircase with 88 steps leads to its top. There is a wonderful circular view especially of the Ore Mountains, Děčínský Sněžník, Czechoslovak Switzerland, Dresden and Altenberg.
ZINWALD
Zinnwald is a typical mountain village with scattered buildings on the Ore Mountains ridge. A harsh and cold climate prevails here. The ore deposit, spread out on both sides of the Czech-German state border in the Cínovec - Zinnwald area and historically linked by mining, became the subject of interest of multinational mining companies at the beginning of the 21st century. On the German side, a private entity created for this purpose has started preparing for lithium mining.
