About event
On Tuesday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m., we invite you to the Staré lyceum community center for a screening of the movie "How the Titanic Saved Me."
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Alexandra Dobrotková, a peer consultant from the Platform of Families of Children with Disabilities. As a mother of two neurodivergent sons, she brings not only a professional perspective, but also a deep personal experience with the topics of autism, ADHD, home education and inclusion.
About the film:
The documentary film is based on the true story of the Icelandic boy Brynjar Karl, whose fascination with the Titanic helped him become independent. It all started with his unquenchable desire to break free from the limitations caused by autism and become part of the stimulating, vibrant world around him.
The fascination with the Titanic showed Brynjar the way and helped him to exercise an untapped talent. Although there is no cure for autism, there are ways to deal with the challenges associated with it. The film explores these possibilities with Brynjar and other young people whose giftedness helped them rise above autism.
Brynjar has become an important voice of young people with autism calling on society to accept them and enable them to fully integrate into education and the working environment.
