About event
Guest: Veronika Homolová Tóthová, director, documentarian, writer
Director Veronika Homolová Tóthová's powerful documentary Searching for Memories (2023, 55 min) tells the story of Agneša Urbanová, who survived a childhood marked by the Second World War. As a small child, she grew up in a loving family in Liptovský Mikuláš, where they led a peaceful and happy life. However, it gradually disintegrated under the pressure of anti-Jewish measures and wartime violence.
The film follows Ms. Agneša's return to the places of her childhood, where after decades, memories that remained suppressed for many years begin to emerge. Through her personal story, the documentary reveals not only the fate of one family, but also how fragile security is, which can be destroyed by hatred and fear.
A sensitive statement about memory, loss and the power to survive is also an important message for today's generation.
The film screening will be followed by a discussion with the author of the documentary, Veronika Homolova Tóthová.
