If Agnes Obel sings, the world seems to stand still for a moment. With her unmistakable mix of folk, neo-classical and pop, the exceptional Danish artist creates unique sound worlds that are at the same time delicate, haunting and overwhelming - and has been delighting a constantly growing, global audience for years. Born in Copenhagen in 1980, Obel grew up in a home where music was omnipresent: her mother played her Chopin and her father collected rare instruments. So it's no wonder that she found the piano early on. Inspired by the Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson, she began writing her own pieces as a teenager and founded her first folk bands. After moving to Berlin, she also discovered producing and released her debut “Philharmonics” in 2010, which immediately went to number one in the charts in Denmark and was certified multiple times platinum. With “Aventine” (2013) and the subsequent, more experimental “Citizens of Glass” (2016), she established herself as one of the most exciting artists in Europe. “Myopia” followed in 2020, which was released on the traditional label Deutsche Grammophon – an atmospheric work between chamber music clarity and electronic sound design. But nothing matches the intensity of her live performances: Agnes Obel transforms every concert hall into a floating space of light, excitement and delicate melodies. Her voice – elegant, rich in nuances and touchingly intimate – takes the audience on a poetic journey through her characteristically dreamy world. After celebrated performances this fall, including at Hamburg's renowned Elbphilharmonie, she is now returning to the German stage. Hamburg, Berlin, Leipzig and Bonn can look forward to four extraordinary shows full of intensity, subtle magic and attention to musical detail.
