Agamemnon: The Circle of Blood

The performance of the historic New York theater La MaMa Experimental Theater Club is coming to Bratislava for a single performance with the internationally recognized actress Rafika Chawish.

The American theater production premiered in New York, where it played for one month to sold-out audiences. performances. It subsequently opened the International Festival of Ancient Drama at the National Theater of North Macedonia and today continues its international journey with performances in Athens.

This is an intense, physical and politically charged solo performance that connects ancient tragedy with the contemporary reality of war.

Inspired by Aeschylus, the poetry of Yannis Ritsos and the speeches of Malcolm X, the performance transforms the character of Klytaimnestra into a strong voice of resistance, memory and justice.

With cinematic rhythm and significant use of multimedia, it creates a raw and almost ritualistic theater space, where the personal becomes political and the past constantly penetrates the present. The performance has had a strong impact on audiences and critics alike and confirms its power as a strong contemporary political statement.
