LOUISE & MICK MULCAHY Living Tradition from the West of Ireland
Louise Mulcahy is one of the most talented instrumentalists in Irish traditional music. She enjoys international acclaim as a virtuoso on uilleann pipes, flute and whistle and is the only person in the history of the Irish national music competition Fleadh Cheoil to win four All-Ireland titles in one day. In addition to four albums that she released with her father Mick and her sister Michelle, Louise released the solo album “Tuning the Road”. Louise's unique take on tradition has earned her worldwide tours and numerous awards: Musician of the Year 2017, Liam O'Flynn Award 2022 and - along with her father and sister - Irish Television's Gradam Ceoil TG4 Award. Her research on women in uilleann pipe playing has received international recognition.
“Louise is one of the best musicians of her generation.” - Matt Molloy
Mick Mulcahy, from Brosna, County Kerry, is a living legend of Irish accordion and melodeon playing. He has a rare repertoire of old tunes which he plays in a distinctive style rooted in the musical regions of Kerry, Clare, East Galway and Sligo - a style which he has passed on to his two daughters Michelle and Louise. Their latest trio album “The Reel Note” was named “Traditional Album of the Year” by Tradconnects. His solo album “Mick Mulcahy” is considered a classic of accordion music. Mick O'Connor, Joe Rynne and Mel Mercier appeared on his later album "Mick Mulcahy agus cairde". He is the winner of the Bardic Award from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and is considered one of Ireland's greatest accordion virtuosos.
