About event

Circular economics in carbon-based value chains

Climate protection is a fundamental element for sustainable business. This requires far-reaching changes such as replacing fossil raw materials and energy sources and focusing on efficient use of resources. In the spirit of defossilization instead of decarbonization, carbon will remain one of the central raw materials in the future, alongside hydrogen and renewable electricity. Carbon is often irreplaceable, especially for the production of goods, which is why a transformation towards a circular carbon economy is of central importance. At the same time, by using new technologies and alternative raw materials, it is important not to get into new dependencies or areas of tension, but rather to use resources efficiently in the spirit of resilience and circular economy.

Aim

The aim of this year's Circular Carbon Economy Summit is to show the prospects of circular economy for carbon-based goods production in order to make a significant contribution to the To achieve climate protection and the circular economy. The exit from fossil raw materials requires carbon recycling in the following ways: i) through biogenic raw materials, ii) the recycling of products or iii) through the use of CO2. However, in order to transition to a circular economy, our resources (e.g. raw materials, energy, land, investments) must be handled as carefully as possible. At the same time, this also offers the opportunity to increase the resilience of domestic goods production and avoid new dependencies (e.g. oil or hydrogen imports).

During the course of the summit, we will identify promising opportunities for the individual areas of Austrian goods production Show the use of circular carbon and outline concrete transformation paths. In this way, we are developing answers to the question of how a circular carbon economy can function in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner without wasting resources.

Exciting things await you Lectures and discussions with high-ranking experts, including:

  • Nebojsa Nakicenovic, Advisory of EK/IIASA
  • Michael Carus , Nova Institute/RCI
  • Karin Huber-Heim, Circular Economy Officer/CEFA
  • Karl Steininger, University of Graz
  • David Newman/European Bioeconomy Bureau
  • Christopher vom Berg, Nova-Institut/RCI
  • Sabine Nadherny-Borutin, ÖCC2/PlasticsEurope
  • Florian Maringer/Context
  • Reinhold Lang/JKU< /li>
  • Klaus Bärnthaler/Andritz
  • Marcel Huber/ Syncraft Engineering

The following topics, among others, are examined:

  • European and international perspectives for a carbon cycle in goods production
  • Update on current strategies and legal framework conditions (e.g. Carbon Removals-VO, Carbon Management Strategy in AT, D and EU)
  • Challenges and operational solutions for a carbon cycle:
    1. Potential of biomass conversion vs. limited availability of raw materials 2. CCU (Carbon Capture and Utilization) as a perspective only with the highest energy efficiency 3. Promoting circular management under logistical and legal hurdles
  • Deep dives in breakout sessions on topics such as mobilization of hidden raw material potential or “industrial symbiosis” to strengthen resilience and efficiency
  • How is the implementation successful and what effects does a carbon cycle have on society, the environment, finance and the economy?

Target group

  • Company
  • Research institutions
  • Associations and interest groups
  • Administration
  • Politics
  • NGOs
  • Civil society institutions

  • Your advantage

The 2nd Circular Carbon Economy Summit provides a detailed insight into the transformation paths of goods production towards a circular carbon economy. Alternative raw material sources (biogenic raw materials and CO2) and the recycling of products are presented as central pillars of a circular carbon economy and their effects (e.g. ecological, economic, social) and influences (e.g. legal framework conditions, accounting) are discussed.

Therefore you should you < /strong>Circular Carbon Economy Summit!

< li>You can expect exciting lectures and discussions with high-ranking national and international experts from science, business, administration and politics on the perspectives and challenges of circular, carbon-based goods production.
    1. Find out which ones current international and national developments in relation to carbon management strategies and what challenges this poses for companies.
    2. Expand your network by exchanging ideas with other pioneers in the carbon-based circular economy , participate in lectures and discussions in interactive formats, and identify potential together and develop strategies for it.
    3. Recognize the potential of circular economy in carbon-based goods production at our event and gain a competitive advantage thus contribute to climate protection!
