16 HORSEPOWER
05/25/2026 - FESTSAAL KREUZBERG
DOORS: 7PM | START: 8PM

After over 20 years, 16 Horsepower are coming back to Germany with their original line-up for three dates.
16 Horsepower is considered the band that shaped the roots-based world Alternative music has fundamentally changed. With their raw intensity and the timbres of Appalachian folk, bluegrass, gospel and country - and with the use of traditional instruments such as banjo, Chemnitz concertina, hurdy-gurdy, lap steel and double bass - they filtered these influences through a modern, rock-influenced perspective.
From this unusual mixture a style-defining subgenre emerged, which was later known under names such as "Gothic Country", "Gothic Americana" or - in the fertile alternative Denver 1990s – became known simply as “The Denver Sound”.
With the solid core trio of David Eugene Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert, changing musical companions and a tireless drive to push boundaries, the band left an unmistakable sonic and thematic fingerprint. Whether it's a fiery sermon, a ghostly ballad or a traditional folk song in a new, dark form - 16 Horsepower created a work that is deeply American and at the same time carries a universally "Gothic" vision.
